[caption id="attachment_150" align="aligncenter" width="534"] usatoday.com[/caption] With a tough 3 games in Texas over the weekend, the Red Sox look to shake off being swept and move on to their series against the Minnesota Twins. There were a lot of questions coming into this series against the Texas Rangers. The Red Sox have been playing great to start off the season, but many people questioned if they could do it against legitimate opponent. The Red Sox have handled the AL East pretty easily, but had yet to face a Texas or Detroit. Well the Sox got the Rangers and got smacked around pretty good for 3 games. Their best opportunity to win a game was in game 3, but gave up the lead late in the game and ended up losing in the bottom of the 9th. With the sweep, the Red Sox are still tied for the best record in the league, they are now tied with the team that just swept them. They need to right the ship against the Twins in a series that the Red Sox should have no problem taking 2 games if they get some offense. Another story within this game is the fact that Clay Buchholz is set to make his 7th start of the season. Buchholz, up until this point is 6-0 with a 1.01 ERA and has been absolutely dominating. In his last game against Toronto he went 7 innings giving up no runs and striking out 8. During the game there was question that Buchholz might be doctoring pitches. This turned into a three day affair that surrounded the Red Sox and sports talk in New England. I have already spoken previously about this, and it got a bit out of hand between Jack Morris and Dennis Eckersley. With all the controversy that surrounded Buchholz and his last outing, there is going to be a lot of focus on him tonight. Everyone will be watching if he is touching his arm and how he throws. If he doesn't touch his arm once and continues his dominance, all the questions will probably go away. But if he comes out, does not do anything suspicious and gets absolutely rocked, the questions will be worse than last week. It will be interesting to watch what happens even though he is facing a sub par twins lineup and should have no problem in this game. Hopefully he will continue pitching well, quiet the critics, and continue helping the Red Sox win games.

MLB will be watching Buchholz closely tonight

@nickcafardo Come on. I had forgotten about this situation for a couple of days, and thought we heard the last of it last week. Now the league and umps will have Clay Buchholz under a microscope tonight to make sure he isn't "cheating". Lou Merloni (@LouMerloni), just said it perfectly on the Mut & Merloni show on WEEI, He doesn't have the stuff that will...

Twins Monday: Buchholz hit, but Boston fights back

Boston's Clay Buchholz entered Monday's game against Minnesota as baseball's best pitcher so far this year. The Minnesota Twins must not have gotten the memo. Minnesota jumped on Buchholz for two runs in the first inning and eventually tagged him for four total runs the most he's allowed in seven starts this season. He also lasted just six innings, the shortest...

Clay Buchholz: Cheater or Gamer?

Over a week ago everyone around the country was talking about the great pitching of Clay Buchholz (6-0 1.01 ERA). Now they are discussing not about his pitching performance but the possibility of him being a cheater. After his start in Toronto, Blue Jays broadcaster, Jack Morris, came out [...]

2013 Fantasy Baseball, Hot Streak or Breakout? Clay Buchholz

Photo credit: jeffcutler Buchholz’s name has been all over the news to start the 2013 season. Buchholz leads all major league starters in ERA (1.01), and he’s Top-15 in WHIP (0.96). Most impressive though, has been his strikeout rate at 27%. He currently has 47 strikeouts in just under 45 innings pitched. Is that strikeout rate legit? Well, recently Blue Jays radio/TV guys Dirk...

Twins-Red Sox Preview

Clay Buchholz has been among baseball's best pitchers this season. Monday night will be the first time he'll get the ball since an allegation of cheating clouded his last start. Buchholz can match the best start by a Boston pitcher since 2007 as he tries to become baseball's first seven-game winner in the opener of a four-game set against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway...

Damn, check out that Ace

Coming into the 2013 season if you asked anyone in Red Sox nation who the ace of the club was the almost unanimous answer would have been Jon Lester. Now, the unanimous answer has to be Clay Buchholz. More than just being the Red Sox ace so far this season, Buchholz has been one of the league's best pitchers and looking to become the first 7 game winner tonight against the Minnesota...

The Clay way

Clay Buchholz might not have had his best performance on the mound Monday night, but another Clay had a shot at redemption and may have earned a bigger spot in the bullpen. Clayton Mortensen was called upon in a tough spot to rise to the challenge and keep the Sox in the game. Just after Joel Hanrahan gave up a game tying solo home run, Mortensen was called upon in relief of Hanrahan...

Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester Becoming Aces Again Has Led Red Sox Back Into Contender Conversation

The Red Sox are sitting pretty atop the American League East standings, and the early returns of this season suggest that they’ll be there to stay. Thanks in large part to the team’s top of the rotation, the Sox have been able to regain the form that made them top contenders in years past — and that they lost down the stretch in 2011 and never found during a lackluster 2012...

Shane Victorino, Will Middlebrooks Back in Lineup As Red Sox Look to Rekindle Offense Behind Clay Buchholz

The Red Sox are looking to put a less-than-productive weekend behind them coming into Monday night’s game against the Twins, and they’ll do so behind their best pitcher so far this year, Clay Buchholz, and a lineup eager to regain its spark. Shane Victorino returns to the Red Sox’ batting order, playing right field, after being given a day off at the end of Boston’s road...

Game 32: Twins at Red Sox - Welcome back home

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer If there is any silver lining to getting swept in Texas it’s that the Boston Red Sox (20-11) are coming home to play seven games against Minnesota (13-14) and Toronto (11-21). Sounds like just what the doctor ordered for the slumping Sox. Boston still holds a 1.5-game lead over New York (18-12) and Baltimore (19-13). Clay Buchholz goes for his...

One Month Fantasy Baseball Review: Five Huge Let Downs Thus Far

The first month of fantasy baseball is has come to a close. It’s been a rather mundane start to the year in the fantasy world. If you drafted Justin Upton you’ve been blessed with some long balls. Miguel Cabrera is being Miguel Cabrera. And Clay Buchholz… Well, Clay Buchholz is the number one ranked player in all of fantasy land. Yikes! That’s the good news. There is some...

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: The Week in Review

The Red Sox went 3-3 for the week beating the Astros last Sunday, taking two out of three from Toronto and dropping the first two games in Texas. The Sox record stands at 20-10 with a 1.5 game lead on the Yankees. Here's the good, the bad and the ugly. The Good: Clay Buchholz is named AL Pitcher of the Month, dominates the Blue Jays and causes an international incident that...

Three things the Red Sox learned in Texas

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer U. G. L. Y. Yeah, it was that ugly over the weekend in Arlington, Texas. Red Sox starting pitchers gave up 12 runs in 14.2 innings, almost a run per inning. The Sox lineup scored just four runs, including being shut out in Game 1. So what all did that tell us? I’ve got you covered right here, right now. 1) Someone needs to step up behind Jon...
