Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the hiring of Patrick Casey as a coach for the 2012 season. Currently, Caseyis an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. UST is an NCAA Division III program, members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

A native of Richfield, Minnesota, Casey has been an assistant with St. Thomas since 2008. In his time with the Tommies, they have posted a 137-49 record including a 64-14 mark in conference play. Casey has been a part of four MIAC Conference Championships, four NCAA Regional appearances, and won the 2009 National Championship. Casey is the program's Recruiting Coordinator and is in charge of catcher development.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of the Waterloo Bucks for this upcoming summer," said Casey. "Getting the opportunity to work in this environment, with this coaching staff and organization is an invaluable experience for any player or coach. The Northwoods League is traditionally the best developmental collegiate summer league in the country and it's a great honor just to be asked to be a part of it. The Bucks have a long standing tradition of excellence and tradition in the NWL and I'm looking forward to carrying on that legacy this upcoming summer."

Casey joins field manager Travis Kiewiet and pitching coach Miles Miller to form the staff for the Bucks' 18th season of play.

"I am very excited to have Pat as part of our coaching staff for the 2012 season," said Kiewiet. "Pat will bring to our staff energy and the work ethic necessary to help put us in the best situation to be successful this summer. He also has a great baseball sense when it comes to coaching which will transfer to our players in getting the best effort out of them."

Casey was a three-year letter winner as a catcher at the University of North Dakota, playing there from 2005-2007. He played three different positions for the Sioux and posted a .995 career fielding percentage, having played catcher, second base and outfield. Casey graduated from St. Thomas with a bachelor's degree in English, Literature Arts with an emphasis in writing.

Born April 19, 1985, Casey comes from a baseball family. His grandfather, the late Bob Casey, was the Hall of Fame public address announcer of the Minnesota Twins from 1961-2005. His father, Mike, lettered for the Tommies in baseball from 1972-1975 and was a part of the 1972 MIAC Conference Championship team while also serving as a professional scout for the Twins from 1980-1987.

The Bucks will open the 2012 season at home versus the Rochester Honkers on May 30 at 6:35 pm. Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale. Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
