The Oakland Athletics have acquired right-hander Chris Resop from the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league right-hander Zach Thornton.
The A's also announced Friday that they will not offer a contract to outfielder Jermaine Mitchell. A move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Resop will be announced later.

Chris Resop has been traded to the Athletics.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have made two trades, dealing Yamaico Navarro and Chris Resop in separate deals, both announced by a team press release. They dealt Navarro to the Orioles for Jhondaniel Medina, and dealt Resop to the Athletics for Zach Thornton.

They non-tendered Jeff Karstens, then reached a deal with Charlie Morton for $2 M (I’ll get into this in a bit).
Rob Biertempfel tweeted this afternoon that the Pirates will non-tender Jeff Karstens at tonight's midnight deadline. There's no word yet on any of the Pirates' other arbitration-eligible players, but Karstens was probably the most important player on the brink (Charlie Morton may get non-tendered, but that's probably more health-related than money related and I could...
