In a year of downs Madison Bumgarner has been one of the few constant ups. Now he is on the brink of a historic feat. Bumgarner struck out 10 in Thursday's 2-1 victory against the Mets to establish a career high of 199. He has one remaining start to reach 200 for the first time in the majors and become the fifth left-hander in franchise history to reach that plateau. The other four are Cy Seymour (1898) Rube Marquard (1911) Ray Sadecki (1968) and Jonathan Sanchez (2010). Bumgarner also surpassed 200 innings for the third consecutive year. Bronx native Juan Perez had a big day at the plate reaching all four times with three singles and a walk. One of his hits helped the Giant score their two runs in the fourth inning enough support for Bumgarner to net his 13th win. Bumgarner allowed one run in seven innings Jean Machi pitched a perfect eighth while Santiago Casilla and Javier Lopez pitched the ninth on a day Sergio Romo was not to be used to secure the Giants their third consecutive series win. Their weeklong tour of the Big Apple continues at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night with Tim Lincecum facing CC Sabathia to begin a series with potential American League playoff implications. Manager Bruce Bochy played a hodgepodge of kids backups and regulars giving 23-year-old shortstop Ehire Adrianza his first start with Perez in left Joaquin Arias at third and Hector Sanchez behind the plate. Sanchez Arias and Perez went double single single to give the Giants a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning against Jonanthan Niese. When Adrianza beat the relay on a possible double-play ball Arias scored a second run. Bumgarner gave one back in the bottom half on a Josh Satin double and Daniel Murphy single and owed Arias a thank-you for two difficult excellent plays to end the inning without a second run scoring.
