As bad as the half-game-from-last-place Giants have been this season, they’re still going to be decently represented in this month’s All-Star Game. The perks of winning the World Series, right? Despite Giants fans’ best efforts to stuff the ballot box, no Giants received enough votes to crack the NL’s starting lineup for the midsummer classic. But do not fear, NL manager Bruce Bochy is here to save the day! The Giants skipper named three of his own players as ASG reserves. Buster Posey (.310, 12 homers, 48 RBI) was an obvious choice to make his second all-star appearance. 37-year-old Marco Scutaro (.313/.368/.408) and Madison Bumgarner (8-5, 3.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) get their first ASG nods, as well. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Yasiel Puig, despite a .420 BA, 8 homers and 19 RBI in just a month’s time, was not among Bochy’s the Grump’s selections. Bochy instead made the Dodgers outfielder one of five nominees for the “final man” fan vote. Hunter Pence is also among the candidat...

Buster Posey's RBI double wiped out for batting out of order (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. The San Francisco Giants suffered an embarrassing mishap in the first inning of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers when they were busted for batting out of order, wiping an RBI double by catcher Buster Posey off the scoreboard. After Posey batted third to knock Marco Scutaro home from third base, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly...

Down on the Farm: Gary Brown

Pic Courtesy of Steven Robles (SFGiantsBaseball.net) Gary Brown went to Cal State Fullerton and was drafted #1 by the San Francisco Giants (24th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. In 2011, he shined for the Single-A Advanced San Jose Giants, earning California League Rookie of the Year honors. Brown hit .336 and set a franchise record for hits with 188. Other highlights...

Giants bat out of order, lose run

The Giants lost a run during their game against the Dodgers when they batted out of order. But what was the reason for the error?

Matt Cain shelled again as San Francisco Giants drop opener

Cain has been a career workhorse, posting six straight years of 200+ innings pitched and 32+ games started. His ERA has been below four since 2006, further cementing a consistent reputation. Constantly under the radar, the public was fully exposed to his talents during the 2010 season. In a truly dominating postseason run, Cain started three games without giving up a single earned...

Giants Bat Out Of Order

Have the defending World Series champs gotten so cold they’ve resorted to cheating?  It appears to be an honest mistake, but a costly one, as the San Francisco Giants lost a run after batting out of the order against the Dodgers on Saturday.  Buster Posey hit an RBI double in Pablo Sandoval’s place, and had to bat twice after his first hit was changed to an out. The mistake...

Lineup mistake? Giants win anyway

With his team slumping and his offense struggling, all Giants manager Bruce Bochy could do was take responsibility and shake his head for a lineup mistake that wiped away a run and a rare lead. "At that point, I just said, `What else?'" Bochy recalled. The day turned out just fine for Bochy, with Madison Bumgarner driving in two runs and striking out nine in seven...

MLB rumors: Brian Wilson a fit for Dodgers, Giants, Angels

It's been evident since early spring that former San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson wouldn't sign his next contract until after the All-Star break. With the All-Star break approaching, ESPN's Buster Olney reports Wilson -- who's recovering from Tommy John surgery -- will likely throw for teams later this month or in August, adding that the right-hander is...

Dodgers top Giants to win fourth straight series

SAN FRANCISCO With one swing of the bat, A.J. Ellis collapsed the Giants on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Park. With the series on the line and the game tied at 1-1 in the ninth inning, the Dodgers catcher stood in facing a bases-loaded situation. With two outs, an electric crowd of 41,094 chanted "Beat L.A." so loud it was probably heard across the bay in Oakland. But...

Giants Rumors: San Francisco's interest in Cubs' Matt Garza 'growing'

The San Francisco Giants appear to be setting their main focus on a bigger fish after losing out on the Ricky Nolasco sweepstakes to the rival Dodgers. While the Dodgers are playing good baseball, you can't really say that about the Giants. They have been losing games, batting out of order and battling injuries to pretty much everyone. The Giants after losing out on Ricky...

Puig Shut Down in Giants Win Over Dodgers

Starting pitcher, Madison Bumgarner (9-5, 3.05 ERA) has proven to be the best and most consistent pitcher so far this season for the San Francisco Giants (40-46). Today’s game against division rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers (41-44), proved it once again, even with a few hiccups along the way. A new system for the Giants’ reeked havoc on the first inning of the game as all the...

Giants Dodgers Orange Friday Pregame Notes

The San Francisco Giants return home after a miserable road trip, looking to get back on track after an awful month of June. Matt Cain (5-4, 4.29 ERA) will face Hyun-Jin Ryu (6-3, 2.83 ERA) of the surging Los Angeles Dodgers. Cole Gillespie will start in left field after the Giants purchased his contract earlier today. Manager Bruce Bochy noted that the Giants will be facing several...

Dodgers get revenge on Romo

Yesterday, Sergio Romo of the San Francisco Giants got a little excited after closing out his teams 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers by doing Hanley Ramirez’s “I See You”. The team obviously took offense to this and made sure to use it as motivation today. With the game tied at one in the ninth inning the Dodgers offense tattooed Romo for three runs, to give him the loss...

Bruce Bochy changing mind about Yasiel Puig?

Last week, Bruce Bochy was quoting in saying that he didn't believe emerging Los Angeles Dodgers rookie superstar Yasiel Puig deserved a place on the National League All-Star team. This was potentially detrimental to Puig's All-Star hopes considering the fact that Bochy will manage the National League squad later this month in the All-Star Game."Generally, guys that...

Dugout Digest - the struggling champs

The San Francisco Giants are not playing good baseball right now. The team got smashed by the Dodgers 10-2 on Friday night, and Matt Cain allowed more runs (eight) than he got outs (seven). San Francisco is now seven games under .500, and 5.5 out (remarkably) in the NL West. If the first place Diamondbacks go on a run prior to the All-Star Break while the Giants continue to struggle...
