The Angels made a huge move this morning, acquiring Houston Astros manager Brad Mills. No, not really, but they did pick up Brad Mills from the Blue Jays.
What did it take to get the lefty with a lifetime ERA of 8.57? It only took a guy with a lifetime batting average of .194. Yes, Angels fans, Jeff Mathis is now a Toronto Blue Jay.
Mathis career in an Angels uniform is now over. I will be the first to admit that I was not a huge Mathis fan, having gotten tired of watching him strike out, or pop up to first. I loved his calling of a game, and I think he coaxed a lot of good innings out of guys who were struggling, or just didn’t have good stuff. That being said, I am not sad to see him relocate. With the Angels luck, he’ll get immediately traded to Texas, where he’ll team with Mike Napoli to form the greatest catching tandem in baseball.
