Can anyone tell me why theres always an off day between the season opener and the second game?

Every year there is always an off day between the first two games of the season for the Phils....why? It sucks because we lose the opener EVERY year (8 of last 9) and then have to wait an extra day to go out and try for that first victory. Just wondering if anyone knows why that is?

  • I was wondering that myself, though I didn't realize the Phillies have lost 8 of 9 in openers.
  • It's incidental to the overall MLB schedule. To avoid having a day off between games the Phillies would have to have the opener today.I assume they opted for Sunday to get the largest possible TV viewership.
  • Harry, yes they do....look back to the schedules of the previous few years...we almost ALWAYS play opening day and then have a day off before playing game number 2. Its been that way for the Phils for at least the last 3 seasons including this year. I understand this year couldve been due to the World Series win but it was the same way last year and the year before as well.
  • well....also, to make my point-- the mets arent playing today and they sure as hell didnt win the World Series
