It's time to get the youth some experience in 2012.The Memorial Day doubleheader sweep of the Houston Astros by the Colorado Rockies gave the few remaining believers hope.In reality, however, this team has dug itself such a huge hole that the dream of climbing out of it and back into contention is extremely unrealistic. Crazy things happen sometimes, but just because it has happened to the Rockies twice in recent history doesn't mean it will happen again. The reason why this team won't climb all the way back into the race is simple. They don't have the starting pitching to make a run. The postseason runs in 2007 and 2009 came courtesy of phenomenal pitching. In '07 Ubaldo Jimenez, Manny Corpas and Franklin Morales were baptized by fire, probably in too much of a whirlwind to realize what they were doing at the big league level. In '09, Jeff Francis was in the midst of a career season, one in which he would never see again. Jorge De La Rosa put the issues that n...

The Colorado Rockies on Wednesday designated veteran pitcher Jamie Moyer for assignment.
The 49-year-old left-hander became the oldest player in major league history to record a win in April, but has mostly struggled in 10 starts this season.
Moyer has allowed 34 runs in 53.2 innings on the mound for a career-worst 5.70 ERA with at least 50 innings pitched.
"I just felt like...
Jamie Moyer, 49, wants to continue pitching, but it won't be with the Rockies, who designated him for assignment. Right-hander Carlos Torres was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs for his third tour this season with the Rockies and might start Friday against the Dodgers in Moyer's turn in the rotation. The move was made before the Rockies beat the Astros 13-5 for their...
DENVER -- Jamie Moyer has been designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies, the move being made about six weeks after he became the oldest starting pitcher to win a game in major league history. The 49-year-old Moyer said in a news conference Wednesday that he still had hopes of continuing his career elsewhere but his immediate plan was to return home and attend a son's...
Jamie Moyer’s days as a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball appear to be over. The Colorado Rockies designated the 49-year-old for assignment on Wednesday after he was rocked in his last two starts.
Moyer went 0-2 and gave up 13 earned runs over 8.2 innings in his last two starts. He surrendered at least five runs in four of his last five starts, and the Rockies had only...
A disastrous season for the Colorado Rockies has gotten even worse, as they've had to place shortstop Troy Tulowitzki onto the 15-day DL with a left groin strain. The Rockies are already nine games under .500 and 11.5 games out of first place, so it's not like this will impact their playoff chances at all....but it's still bad news for the team.
Tulowitzki first injured...
In losing 7-5 at Cincinnati on Sunday, the Colorado Rockies lost for the third time in franchise history when they hit at least five home runs. They are 20-3 all-time in games with five or more home runs. They also are 7-26 in games in which they have allowed five or more home runs.
There have been 1,251 games in which a team has hit five or more home runs, and that team has lost...
Carlos Gonzalez hit three home runs in his last three at-bats, Michael Cuddyer belted a grand slam and Dexter Fowler also homered, leading the Colorado Rockies past the Houston Astros 13-5 on Wednesday night for their third win in a row.
The game was not without some concern for the Rockies, however. Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki left the game in the top of the seventh with what...
