The New York Yankees had yet another injury scare as All Star slugger Robinson Cano was struck in the hand by a pitch in the first inning. Cano was immediately taken to a hospital in Toronto for precautionary X-rays.
The good news for the Yankees is that he was diagnosed with a contusion and there is no break or chip in the bone. Cano will be reevaluated when the swelling goes down but for now is day to day.
Cano is having another solid season batting .305 with 24 homeruns. The Yankees need to Cano if they hope to erase a 4 1/2 game deficit in the American League Wild Card race. Cano also needs to end the season strong as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
