New York Yankees fans are used to a certain brand of baseball that includes a lot of home runs and scoring and they haven’t been getting that with this season’s version of the Bronx Bombers.
The Yankees have been forced to field a lineup stacked with inadequate hitters due to a litany of devastating injuries to key players, but it seems like the fans won’t be tolerating any excuses, as attendance and TV ratings have suffered because of the poor product on the field.
Evidence of that was on display today as the Bombers took on the Los Angeles Dodgers, and as you can see the turnout wasn’t good for a game that has a lot of intriguing storylines including the return of former Yankees player and coach Don Mattingly, and the ballpark debut of everyone’s favorite rookie Yasiel Puig.
This form of silent protest may force the organization into making some much-needed moves before season’s end.

LONG TIME COMING
Don Mattingly ended his 14-year playing career with the Yankees in 1995. Yankee Stadium's Bleacher Creatures started their roll call tradition in 1997. When the Dodgers visited the Yankees on Wednesday, Mattingly -- now Los Angeles's manager -- finally had the chance to hear his name shouted in the roll call. The Creatures have welcomed back other former Yankees (including...
Back in the 1980s, when the New York Yankees were in a championship drought, there was one player most fans were inevitably drawn to.
The gritty first baseman with the thick eye black. The guy who crouched low and then uncoiled that sweet, powerful swing from the left side of the plate.
During a rare down period for baseball's most successful franchise, Don...
Yesterday's doubleheader split with Don Mattingly's Dodgers got me to thinking about the iconic Yankee captain. He thrilled fans and created so many fond memories years ago. My own memories are nothing special but I cherish them all the same. When Mattingly made his Major League debut in 1982 I was still new to the game and didn't know much about it. However, even with...
NEW YORK (AP) -- Hanley Ramirez capped a six-hit day with a pair of RBI singles, Yasiel Puig homered to complete a dazzling debut in New York and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Yankees 6-0 Wednesday for a split of their day-night doubleheader. The Dodgers salvaged manager Don Mattingly's return to the Bronx after a 6-4 loss in the opener. Chris Capuano (2-5) pitched three...
NEW YORK (AP) -- Hiroki Kuroda shut down his former team into the seventh inning, Ichiro Suzuki homered and drove in three runs, and the New York Yankees spoiled Don Mattingly's return to the Bronx with a 6-4 victory over the sloppy Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.
Lyle Overbay hit a two-run double against South Korean rookie Hyun-Jin...
The first day of summer arrives on Friday, but somehow it feels like the dog days have already come and gone. The baseball season is almost three months old, and neither the Angels nor the Dodgers have gotten hot, or even tepid.
They are, as Dodgers manager Don Mattingly frequently says about his team, treading water a combined 19 games under .500 and 18 games out of first place...
The Yankees are back on the east coast to take on the former Yankee Don Mattingly and the LA Dodgers. It is Mattingly’s first time back in the Bronx since leaving for LA 6 years ago. It should be a warm welcome home for the Yankee legend.

The game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees has been postponed by rain, delaying the renewal of their old October rivalry.
The game was called Tuesday night about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. It will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Wednesday, with start times of 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.
A star player and fan favorite when he was captain...
Phil Hughes (3-5, 4.89 ERA) and the Yankees are back on the east coast after a long (and disappointing) west coast trip to take on Hyun-Jin Ryu (6-2, 2.85 ERA) and the Dodgers (and Don Mattingly) in the first game of two. Hughes has been hot and cold all year, and his last outing against Oakland would certainly be in the cold category. He threw 95 pitches and lasted just 4 1...
When the Dodgers last won the World Series as New York City, a ticket to Game 4 could be had for $7.35, or less than the cost of a hot dog or a beer at the New Yankee Stadium. The last time the Dodgers visited the Bronx was for the 1981 world series, and the face price of the Old Yankee Stadium Loge seats was $20. Times have obviously changed, and for last year's World Series...
