St. Louis Cardinals weekly chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.
Late Thursday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller and Jim Brinson on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in another installment of this year’s series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.” Our focus was the first week of the season and Friday’s home opener (the reason we went a day early this time).
Cardinals followers in central Iowa can again catch Cardinals radio broadcasts on KXnO as well as my segment each Friday afternoon throughout the season, either over the air or via streaming. My appearances are sponsored by WCI Pools and Spas,

The first-week formula of home runs and strong starting pitching (and relief, too) worked again for the Cardinals Tuesday night.
Right fielder Carlos Beltran and third baseman David Freese each hit his third homer of the season, with Freese's sixth-inning, two-run drive the difference in a 3-1 win at Cincinnati. Counting the one-game victory at Miami, the Cardinals have won...
So far, the St. Louis Cardinals are doing just fine without Albert Pujols. And they don't seem to miss Tony La Russa, either.
The World Series champions are off to a nice start heading into Friday's home opener against the Chicago Cubs. During their impressive 5-2 start on the road under new manager Mike Matheny, the Cardinals have gotten plenty of clutch hitting and pitching...
During the 2011 run to World Series Championship, St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay had himself quite an interesting season.
After bumping Colby Rasmus out of town, Jay spent most of the 2011 season hitting in the second spot in the Cardinals lineup. Of the 107 times former manager Tony La Russa wrote Jay's name on the lineup card, Jay hit second in the lineup 72...
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Ian Stewart hit a three-run homer in the first inning, Bryan LaHair later connected for a grand slam and the Chicago Cubs hammered Adam Wainwright, spoiling the St. Louis Cardinals' home opener with a 9-5 victory on Friday.
Starlin Castro had three hits and a walk for the Cubs. Chicago has scored 17 runs the last two games after totaling 19 runs in the first...
ST. LOUIS Mike Matheny settled behind his desk on a day when the St. Louis Cardinals' past met its future. About five hours before the start of the Busch Stadium season opener, the rookie manager prepared to live another first in a season of many for him.
He had tried not to spend much thought on the day's meaning. After all, St. Louis' season was already seven games...
(Yes, the blimp does say Ice Cube's a pimp.)It's here. It's finally here. It's been 167 days since the Cardinals took the field at Busch Stadium. They left it holding a Commissioner's Trophy high over their heads for the 11th time. And today they come back out of the dugout a markedly different...
Dear David Freese,
Word on the street says you're not thrilled with me. Allegedly, last week I proclaimed your playoff heroics correlated to an elevated and unwarranted standing this season, writing a check that your injury-prone body could not cash. I advised owners not to buy the hype, that you best served their team riding the pine the first few weeks until you proved your...
