ST. LOUIS Cardinals left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia believes he'll make just one more rehab start before being ready to rejoin the big league club. He's also pleased with the progress his left shoulder is making. Garcia, recovering from a left shoulder strain that landed him on the disabled list June 7, went 4 13 innings Saturday night during a rehab start with Double...

Lohse continues to quietly impress

ST. LOUIS When asked to name the starting pitcher who led the 2011 World Series Champion Cardinals in both wins and ERA, even some in St. Louis likely wouldn't say the correct answer of Kyle Lohse. But despite having an even better season this year, Lohse seems to be flying under the radar nationally yet again. And that appears to be just fine with him. "I don't really...

Cards take opener of crucial series with Giants

ST. LOUIS -- In a potential playoff preview Monday night at Busch Stadium, the surging St. Louis Cardinals showed people that they can beat the good teams too. The Cardinals entered Monday's series opener against the NL West leading San Francisco Giants with just a 10-21 mark in their last 31 games against teams with a winning record. Matt Carpenter producing as a pinch-hitter

The bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded and two out, was a pivotal moment in the St. Louis Cardinals’ Monday night’s game against the visiting San Francisco Giants. Cards manager Mike Matheny pulled starting pitcher Jake Westbrook despite the right-hander having thrown only 79 pitches and holding a narrow 3-2 lead. Matt Carpenter pinch hit and delivered a two-run single...

Giants Claim Jose Mijares Off Waivers

Earlier today, the Giants acquired left-handed reliever Jose Mijares from the Kansas City Royals via waivers. The Giants simply claimed him off waivers and didn’t have to give up anything in return, so they basically got him for free. Mijares, 27, doesn’t hit free agency until 2015, and he’s actually having a very good season: he’s tossed 38.2 innings across 51 appearances...

Giants finish off weep of Rockies

DENVER -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy wasn't sure Tim Lincecum would survive the first inning Sunday. As Lincecum tried to hold on and escape what became a 36-pitch ordeal, Bochy had Shane Loux up and throwing. But Lincecum escaped that shaky first, regrouped and continued his second-half resurgence Sunday for the Giants, who beat the free-falling Rockies 8-3 to sweep their...

A Sweep? Leads Monday Ramblin's...

A sweep? Are the Cardinals contractually allowed to sweep? I thought that was going to incur some sort of fine on Mike Matheny. Or open up the skies to showers of frogs and newts… Has there ever been a more Olympic story than Oscar Pistorius? Today many people, including myself, are going to be doing a lot less complaining. About everything…That 5 game over .500 mark had a strong...
