In the wake of losing Albert Pujols, SI's Jon Heyman reported this evening that the St. Louis Cardinals are expected to non-tender middle infielder, Ryan Theriot. He also stated that the Mets, Braves, Reds and others could be interested in his services.Theriot, who made $3.3 million last season, appeared in 132 games for the Cards in 2011, batting .271 with 26 doubles and 46 RBIs. Although he lacks power, he also stikes out less than once every ten plate appearances. Probably as important for the Mets, he is well experienced at both second base (233 games) and short stop (530 games) and is defensively sound at each.Theoretically, if he isn't too expensive, Theriot could provide the Mets with some much needed depth up the middle as it isn't known at this point who will start the year at second base.
