Found June 14, 2012 on Pro Sports Daily:
Wednesday was supposed to be Yoenis Cespedes' big day. It wasn't. The Oakland A's outfielder made his first start since June 7, hoping his strained left hamstring was controllable, but he lasted only one at-bat and one inning in left field, exiting after aggravating the injury running out a groundball. He won't play Thursday, and manager Bob Melvin said an option is using Cespedes as a DH after the A's finish their interleague series in Colorado. Oakland scored three runs in the ninth to beat the Rockies 10-8, and the guy who replaced Cespedes had something to do with it. Jonny Gomes hit one of three homers for the A's. He had two hits and scored twice. The story behind Cespedes' removal? "When he came in for a ball in left field, he wasn't comfortable," manager Bob Melvin said. "We took him out. We didn't want to press it. He was favoring it. I think it just scares him. He doesn't want to pull it all the way."...

Mark Mulder: There was no talk of ‘Moneyball’ when I was in Oakland

Contrary to the portrayal in the movie “Moneyball,” one former A’s player says he wasn’t aware of the revolutionary movement taking place in the team’s front office at the time. “There was no talk of ‘Moneyball’ when I was there,” says ex-A’s pitcher Mark Mulder. “You never heard anything like that.” Mulder, a current ESPN broadcaster, made his comments while...

Oakland's Moss puts on mile-high power display

Brandon Moss is the new flavor of the month for the Oakland A's, who have been seeking a first baseman who could stick around. Moss put on quite a show Tuesday at Coors Field, hitting two homers, one that reached the third deck, the 32nd ball to go that far in the history of the ballpark, which opened in 1995. "We knew he had that kind of power," manager Bob Melvin...

A's OF Cespedes hurts hamstring against Rockies

Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has left Wednesday night's game against Colorado because of a strained left hamstring. Cespedes was injured running out a grounder in the top of the first inning. He played left field in the bottom half of the first before being replaced in the field by Jonny Gomes in the second. Cespedes, who is considered day-to-day, originally...

Bottom of the Ninth: Fuentes is Cook’d

Oakland Athletics: After surrendering 3 baserunners and 3 runs in a blown save Friday, Brian Fuentes is out of the 9th in Oakland. He no longer misses bats; he owns a solid 9.38 career K/9 with a 11.3% swinging strike rate, but his 2012 numbers check in at a much less impressive 6.45 K/9, supported by a diminished 7.0% swinging strike rate. This is part of a multi-year trend, and...

Rockies Notes: Tulo Injury Update

After blowing a pair of leads to the Athletics on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Rockies never lead on Thursday as only a ninth inning rally prevented the National League's best offense from getting shutout at home. Colorado couldn't touch Oakland rookie Jarrod Parker as the Rockies had a man reach second base only twice while Parker was in the game.
