The Washington Nationals agreed to terms with Chad Gaudin on a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 27 year old right hander has spent time as both a starter (75 games) and as a relief pitcher (183 games) during his 8 seasons in the majors. To this point in his career he has 35 wins, 39 losses and a 4.61 era while having played for 6 teams.
It was with the A’s though that he is probably most remembered and it was mainly for two seasons
2006- 64 innings pitched with a 3.09 era and a era+ of 144
That year in 14 save situations he had 2 saves, 11 holds, 1 blown save and allowed 20% of his inherited runners to score
2007- 34 games started with 11 wins, 13 losses and a 4.42 era
He tied for the lead in games started in the American League that season
His career has been up and down with more downs than ups but if on he has the ability to be an alright contributor to whatever team he is on. He is definitely not guaranteed to make the team but he will have a shot to in spring training and with his history as a starter as well as a long relief pitcher it could provide them with a decent long relief pitcher.
