The estranged mother of Yankees star pitcher Joba Chamberlain has been busted for allegedly dealing drugs, authorities said.
Jacqueline Standley, 44, was arrested Saturday at her Nebraska apartment on felony charges of selling a gram of methamphetamine to an undercover cop, said police Capt. David Beggs.
Standley was being held Monday night on $5,000 bail after being arraigned in the same Lincoln courtroom where her famous son pleaded guilty last month to drunken-driving charges.
Beggs said an undercover cop paid Standley $110 for the small plastic bag of speed. He said the transaction happened Feb. 11 at Standley's apartment, which features a shrine to her son with photos and news clippings of his baseball accomplishments.
Standley's arrest was delayed until laboratory tests done on the substance purchased from her confirmed it was meth, Beggs said.
She was charged with delivery of an exceptionally hazardous drug, a class 2 felony punishable by 1 to 50 years in prison. Standley told a judge that she could not afford an attorney. A public defender was appointed to represent her.
"She's still my mom and I still love her," he said. "That's the long and short of it. You handle it. You've only got one mom, man. You have to be thankful for her, love her and pray for her."
Such things Joba has over come. It just make you say WOW.
