Cubs Sign Reed Johnson; Scrappers Celebrate

On Wednesday morning, the Chicago Cubs came to an agreement for a one-year deal with free agent OF Reed Johnson. The Cubs are no strangers with Johnson — three of the last four times Johnson has signed a contract, it had “Cubs” literally written all over it (counting this most recent transaction). It may be surprising to the Cubs fan base, however, that one of the staples of...

Cubs Planning "Complete And Total Rebuild"

The Cubs are attempting to deal "most of their valuable assets" before Spring Training begins and "a complete overhaul of the team will definitely happen," two Major League sources tell David Kaplan of CSN Chicago.  The impending Sean Marshall-for-Travis Wood trade is the first step in this process, as the Cubs are acquiring a young, controllable, 24-year-old...

Cubs agree to swap P Marshall to Reds for P Wood

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to trade reliever Sean Marshall to the Cincinnati Reds for lefthander Travis Wood and two minor leaguers. The left-handed Marshall has been a workhouse for the Cubs the past two season, making 158 appearances. The 29-year-old Marshall was 6-6 with a 2.26 ERA in 78 appearances last season. He has a career 32-40 record in six seasons with Chicago. Wood...

Chael Sonnen unimaginatively takes shot at Chicago Cubs

When touting UFC on Fox 2, Chael Sonnen took a shot at the Chicago Cubs, a team who plays 5.5 miles away from the United Center, where Sonnen will fight Mark Munoz. (He takes the shot at the very beginning of the video.) What disappoints me about that is it's lack of imagination. Using the Cubs as a punching bag is for amateurs, and Sonnen is a highly regarded professional in...

A person familiar with the situation says the Chicago Cubs and outfielder Reed Johnson are closing in on a one-year contract.

Source: Cubs agree to trade Marshall to Reds

Setup man Sean Marshall to be dealt to Reds; Bill Buckner joins minor-league staff

They weren’t factors in the bidding for Japanese pitching star Yu Darvish and aren’t serious players in the Prince Fielder sweepstakes. But the Cubs are quietly having a busy week, bringing back one of their .300 hitters, adding a former batting champ to the organization and getting close to trading...
