The Chicago Cubs have recalled left-handed starter Brooks Raley from their Triple-A to take the place of injured Zach Putnam who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday due to elbow soreness in his pitching elbow.
Raley has started 12 games this season for Iowa, allowing a near-5.00 earned run average spanning over 64 innings. He most likely will get his playing time out of the bullpen as a cleanup/long-reliever.
In 2012, Raley had a 1-2 record for the cubs, starting 5 games, while allowing 44 base runners in just over 24 innings pitched. He also allowed 7 home runs in that span. For Raley to make a solid impression he will have to focus on harnessing his wildness while minimizing his extended innings.
