The Chicago Cubs dumped one trade chip on Monday when they shipped starting pitcher Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers, and appear to have sent away another early Tuesday morning. According to the New York Post, the New York Yankees are set to acquire outfielder Alfonso Soriano from the Cubs in exchange for a mid-level prospect. The Yankees are desperately in need of a right-handed bat and the 37-year-old Soriano might be worth the gamble. He will likely take over as the every day left fielder until Curtis Granderson returns from the disabled list, after that Soriano is likely ticketed for the designated hitter role. Soriano broke into the big leagues with the Yankees and made his Major League debut with the team back in 1999. He played the next five seasons in the Bronx, before being shipped to the Texas Rangers as part of the trade that brought Alex Rodriguez to the Yankees. The Cubs signed Soriano to a massive eight-year, $136 million contract back in November of 2006, and since the...

Alfonso Soriano is Headed Back to the Bronx

The New York Yankees have a deal in place to bring Alfonso Soriano back to where his career first started. This is a salary dump by the Cubs. Soriano still has fantasy value left in him and has hit at least 20 home runs in every season since 2002. He already has 17 long balls this season and could add another 10 at Yankee Stadium. Also, considering how much trouble the Yankees have...

The Yankees already have a roster of overpriced, aging former superstars. So what’s one more? According to multiple reports, the Yankees are talking with the Chicago Cubs about a trade that would send Alfonso Soriano back to New York where he started his career. According to the New York Post, the Yankees are actually “close” to acquiring the outfielder from Chicago. It’s...

Alfonso Soriano Won’t Help NY Yankees

The word is that the New York Yankees are close to acquiring Alfonso Soriano from the Chicago Cubs. Why? As a supporter of the Yankees my entire life, I will avoid the ‘hater’ stigma to say that there is no way they make the playoffs this year. Mark it down. They’ve been a great story this season but they just don’t have the resources to make the push needed to leapfrog much...

The Chicago Cubs are not close on a deal that would send outfielder Alfonso Soriano to the New York Yankees, countering previous reports that came out Tuesday morning saying the two clubs were close. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune was told by a Cubs source that the club is discussing a trade with the Yankees involving Alfonso Soriano, but that conversations are preliminary and [...]

In desperate need of power, Yankees close to deal for Soriano

According to a person familiar with the talks, the Cubs will pay the bulk of what is left on Soriano’s contract. He makes $18 million this year and the...

Alfonso Soriano: A Chance for Something

It was on Feb. 16, 2004, that the Yankees thought they had their questions answered. That day, they added a 28-year-old Alex Rodriguez from the Rangers — along with cash — and what it cost them was Alfonso Soriano and, eventually, Joaquin Arias. It was a deal thought to be lopsided at the time, and Rodriguez, for awhile, performed like a superstar. Rodriguez today resembles Rodriguez...

Cubs Rumors: Alfonso Soriano trade to Yankees 'likely' happens

The Yankees are in talks with the Chicago Cubs about acquiring 37-year old former Yankee Alfonso Soriano, according to George King of the New York Post. King said that the deal was close, but that was denied by Cubs GM Jed Hoyer and other reports. A deal isn't close, but Peter Gammons of ESPN reports that a deal between the Cubs and Yankees for Soriano 'likely' happens...

Yankees Rumors: Alex Rios backup plan to Alfonso Soriano?

The Yankees are 'seriously' interested in Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano, but in case a deal falls through with the Cubs, the Yankees may have their fallback option. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune speculated that the Yankees could show interest in White Sox outfielder Alex Rios if they fail to land Soriano. The speculation makes sense. The Yankees have shown...

Opinion: Trades Should Put Phillies in a Selling Mood

This morning as I read the Yankees are close to bringing Alfonso Soriano back on board, ending the Cubs numerous attempts to trade him, it became very clear to me. The Yankees are trying way too hard to stay in a race they have have little chance in. They've taken...

Rangers Rumors: Texas looking to acquire a bat

Freshly off trading for Matt Garza, the Texas Rangers are now trying to upgrade some other positions. They have been shaky on offense this year, so the Rangers are going to try to solve their offensive problems. According to Todd Wills of ESPN Dallas, the Rangers are eyeing a hitter to help improve their offense. He says some options that the team may look at are Cubs outfielder...
