Chris Sale now has ten losses on the season with a 2.69 ERA. Another week, another six losses for the Chicago White Sox.  The White Sox manged just one win against the Detroit Tigers in a four game set and then capped off the weekend by being swept by the Kansas City Royals. Luckily the Sox were able to scratch out a win against the Tigers in Jake Peavy’s possible last start with the club.  The Sox scored seven runs off Justin Verlander, who is holding a 3.99 ERA; very high for Verlander standards.  The White Sox went an uncharacteristic five-for-11 with runners in scoring position.  However, this game was the high-watermark for the week for the embattled ball club. The ultimate low-light came on Saturday when Chris Sale once again found himself as the Sox’ tough luck pitcher.  Sale pitched a complete game against the Royals while only surrendering one run.  However, he lost due to a superb outing from Wade Davis, who came into the game carrying an ERA just south of six.  Davis also benefited from some stellar defense from outfielder Lorenzo Cain.  Sale now has ten losses on the season while carrying a stingy 2.69 ERA. Sale’s previous start earlier in the week against the Detroit Tigers saw his team lose 7-3 behind three White Sox errors.  Sale gave up four runs, two earned, before leaving after eight innings. After a promising start after the All-Star break, taking two of three from the Atlanta Braves, the Chicago White Sox ended up having only one other victory on a 10-game home stand finishing up at 3-7. However, even with the White Sox being 22-games under .500 heading into a four-game series with the Cleveland Indians, this week should be very eventful for the Chicago White Sox.  The trade deadline is Wednesday and with the Sox needing a major facelift, the club should be active in acquiring talent.  At the very least it seems likely that Peavy will be moved and the Sox will soon begin a youth movement to see what surprises their farm system may provide.  It may not be delightful baseball on the field, but the off-the-field soap opera may be interesting.
