Swarm of bees delays Angels-Orioles game

The game between the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim was briefly delayed due to an alarming number of bees swarming about the ballpark. Order was restored when a grounds crew member dressed up as Winnie the Pooh made off with the bees’ hive and ran off into a nearby forest clearing. No, actually, the grounds crew was involved...

Orioles trust in their talent

They were the losers of the offseason, the antithesis of the Angels, Dodgers and Blue Jays. Rather than go out and buy better players, the Orioles trusted the players they had to get better and their manager and coaches to help them improve. Most of the industry scoffed, just as most of the industry scoffed last season, when the Orioles defied mathematical logic by going 29-9 in...

Freddy Garcia strong in first start but Orioles need extra frames to beat Angels

Freddy Garcia pitched six innings without allowing a hit in his first start of the 2013 season but the Orioles needed extra innings to defeat the Angels on Saturday. Garcia’s final line was 6 2/3 innings in which he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk. The right hander struck out one before being replaced by Darren O’Day. Garcia’s hopes of picking up his first win of...

Manny Machado Isn’t Bad for 20 Years Old Either

Contrary to popular belief there are two 20 year old studs playing in the DMV. I will start this article off by saying this is not a compare and contrast between Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. Harper is a stone cold stud and what he is doing to live up to expectations none of us know anything about is pretty incredible. Harper is the best player on his team at 20 years old. That...

Orioles defeat host Angels in 10

Steve Pearce's RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Baltimore also got homers from Manny Machado, J.J. Hardy and Nolan Reimold. Garrett Richards (1-3) making his first relief appearance after five starts in place of the injured Jered Weaver, gave up a leadoff single through the box...

Orioles' Tillman stymies Angels

Chris Tillman returned to his hometown and outpitched Joe Blanton with eight scoreless innings of three-hit ball, right fielder Nick Markakis threw out Mike Trout at the plate and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. Markakis also hit an RBI double and Nate McLouth hit a two-run homer in the ninth, a drive to center...

The best and worst MLB players from April

The first month of the 2013 MLB season is in the books, and this will serve as your de facto recap of which players starred, and which players faltered this April. AL Hitter of the Month Chris Davis, Orioles. Davis raked to start the season off, bashing nine homers in his first 27 games (second in the majors, first in the AL) and driving in 28 runs (tied for the AL lead). Throw...

Orioles lose 4-0 to Vargas, Angels

The Baltimore Orioles played right into Jason Vargas' hands, rolling over most of the pitches they put in play and getting just three hits against the Los Angeles Angels lefty. Miguel Gonzalez gave up home runs to Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout before a blister on his thumb forced him out of the game after six innings and 80 pitches. The Orioles grounded into 15 groundball outs...

Freddy Garcia to Start against the Angels today...

A few weekends ago, I was with some friends at a bar before a NBA playoff game and the conversation turned to the Orioles – specifically, the pitching staff. One of my friends harked, “so do you think Freddy Garcia is going to get a start this year?” At the time, Jake Arrieta had just been optioned to Triple-A. I said, “Unfortunately, yes.” My friend asked...

April Wrap Up and Review: Birdland Edition

With 16 wins (11 loses), the Baltimore Orioles tied the franchise record for most wins in the month of April. The 2012 team finished with 14 wins so we are ahead of the pace in that regard. As of early today, Baltimore’s Offense is 3rd in the MLB in runs (138), 6th in Batting Average (2.65) and 6th in Slugging (4.29). On the other side of the ball, they rank 4th in fielding percentage...

SoCal product Tillman shuts down Angels, 5-1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Chris Tillman returned to his hometown and outpitched Joe Blanton with eight scoreless innings of three-hit ball, right fielder Nick Markakis threw out Mike Trout at the plate, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. Markakis also hit an RBI double and Nate McLouth hit a two-run homer in...

Tillman Delivers Out West

After splitting their series with the Seattle Mariners, the Baltimore Orioles headed down to Disneyland – ok, Anaheim, California – to face the Los Angeles Angels. The series in Seattle for the Orioles, in my mind, was one they could have easily won if the pitching and defense had held their own; however, they bounced back with a 5-1 win over the Angels. I stayed up...

Orioles-Angels Preview

Chris Tillman's first career win came against his hometown Los Angeles Angels, but he just missed out pitching in Anaheim for the first time last season. The Baltimore Orioles right-hander will finally get that chance in Thursday night's series opener. Acquired from Seattle in the 2008 Erik Bedard deal that brought Adam Jones to Baltimore, Tillman (1-1, 4.73 ERA) needed...
