The Cincinnati Reds will play host to the 2015 All-Star Game, commissioner Bud Selig announced Wednesday. Cincinnati has not had an All-Star Game since 1988, long before Great American Ball Park was built in 2003. It will be the city's fifth time as the host. The game was previously played in old Crosley Field in 1938 nd 1953 and in Riverfront Stadium in 1970 and 1988. The 1970 extra-inning affair was famous for the collision at home plate between former Reds player Pete Rose and Cleveland Indians catcher Ray Fosse. Rose scored to give the National League a 5-4 victory. "The Midsummer Classic will be a remarkable opportunity to celebrate Cincinnati’s rich baseball tradition, which parallels the history of the national pastime itself," Selig said. This year's All-Star Game will be played at Citi Field, which is the Mets' home field, and the 2014 All-Star Game is scheduled to be played at Target Field, which is the Twins' home ballpark.
