MIAMI – The way Marlins pitcher Josh Johnson was throwing for eight innings, Mets backup catcher Kelly Shoppach didn’t think his team had “much of a chance.” But the Mets erupted for four runs in the ninth to earn a 5-3 win over Miami before 26,402 fans at Marlins Park. Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen took Johnson out after eight innings and 105 pitches, inserting normally reliable closer Steve Cishek, who had converted 11 of 13 save chances to that point in the season. But Daniel Murphy and David Wright opened the ninth with singles. After Friday night’s hero, Ike Davis, struck out, Lucas Duda hit a run-scoring single to center. “We had some great at-bats in the ninth,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. Mike Baxter then fouled out for the second out, giving Marlins fans hope that their team would escape with a 3-2 win. That’s when Andres Torres drew a walk to load the bases and bring up Stoppach. “Andres did a great job because he forced Cishek to throw a lot of pitches...

Marlins owner will wait to evaluate poor season

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria says he will wait until after the season before evaluating his disappointing team. Not long after Miami's team picture was taken Friday afternoon, Loria offered little when asked what the photo might look like in 2013. ''I thought this team was a contender this year. We have to figure out what went wrong,'' Loria said. The Marlins...

Marlins turn to Johnson to take on Mets

Pitching has spurred the New York Mets' recent surge. That could continue while visiting the punchless Miami Marlins. Miami Marlins – There Were Aberrations

Baseball teams have “bad” season’s because of many reasons. The team has terrible pitching. Their hitting, or fielding sucks. The managers a total jerk, and in the Boston Red Sox case this season, players just refuse to perform for a manager they don’t care for. Miami Marlin owner Jeffrey Loria, on Friday when the team took their “official” team photo, told reporters...

Game Preview: Mets @ Marlins

The Mets head down to Miami today to take on the Marlins in what will be an important series to stay out of the basement of the National League East. Going into yesterday’s game the Mets had a four game winning streak that was snapped even after a quality start of Jon Niese and the bullpen holding down the fort. Tonight R.A. Dickey takes the mound as he faces Nathan Eovaldi, who...

Pre-Game: New York Mets (63-70) @ Florida MarLOLins (59-74)

And some Mets fans out there think Terry Collins should be fired?  HA!  What a job by Ozzie Guillen last night.  MarLOLins Ace Josh Johnson, was mowing down Mets hitters all night and carried a 2-1 lead into the 9th inning.  But as what has become a custom, the closer automatically was brought in to the 9th inning, to add to a meaningless stat.  Johnson had only thrown 105 pitches...
