Clay Buchholz has had the best 6 game start of any Red Sox pitcher since 1991 and Rodger Clemens start that year. If you think about Buchholz starting the year 6-0 in 6 starts, it is quite an accomplishment. Pedro Martinez never did this, nor did Curt Shilling, Derek Lowe, or Tim Wakefield. Buchholz was named the American Leagues pitcher of the month and will be given a trophy, a trophy he has won once before. Last time he won the trophy was in August of 2010, when his name was misspelled on the award (Buccholz). Buchholz fully deserves this award in the month of April he finished tied for first in wins, was second in ERA, was fifth in opponent batting average (.192), was tied for seventh in strikeouts and was tied for eighth in innings pitched. Clay has had an amazing month, hopefully he will be able to to continue this success for the rest of the season, if he does we may be removing the la from the middle of his name and swapping Buchholz for Young. Do you think Buchholz will ke...

Rapid React (5/2): Buchholz Dominant Again

Another day, another strong outing from Clay Buchholz. After shutting down Toronto to the tune of 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 8 K/3 BB, Buchholz’s season ERA now sits at an incredible 1.01. I realize that there is no way he sustains that ERA and regression is imminent, but the real question is what kind of regression are we looking at?If you look at Buchholz’s PITCHf/x data, you’ll see...

Clay Buchholz Commands, Changes Way To Success

Although Clay Buchholz had enjoyed his share of success heading into 2013, from a no-hitter to a 17-win season, one assumes the Red Sox were hoping for more. Buchholz was Baseball America‘s fourth-best prospect entering 2008 and appeared to be a top-of-the-rotation power arm capable of ace-level dominance. Instead, Buchholz has had one very good season — a 2010 with a 2.33 ERA...

Visually Comparing Clay Buchholz, 2012-2013

Greetings FanGraphs readers, I am Drew Sheppard, and if you recognize my name it is probably from the Yu Darvish pitch selection GIF that made the rounds last week. Over the coming months, it is my goal to use similar techniques to put a visual spin on some of the information FanGraphs has always provided, including but not limited to similar pitcher breakdowns. Today I will be...

One Month Fantasy Baseball Review: Five Huge Let Downs Thus Far

The first month of fantasy baseball is has come to a close. It’s been a rather mundane start to the year in the fantasy world. If you drafted Justin Upton you’ve been blessed with some long balls. Miguel Cabrera is being Miguel Cabrera. And Clay Buchholz… Well, Clay Buchholz is the number one ranked player in all of fantasy land. Yikes! That’s the good news. There is some...

A second generation of idiots

They have pine tar on their helmets again, and there’s not a clean uniform in the bunch. Half of the Red Sox seem to have forgotten that their jerseys have a top button and wear their pants about three sizes too large. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Clay Buchholz have some crazy heads of hair. And the beards. The glorious beards. Even early in the season, it’s hard not to look at...
