While much of the talk about the Los Angeles Dodgers centered around Don Mattingly and whether or not he would be keeping his job, Clayton Kershaw went about his business scattering three base hits to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Ryan Braun managed a pair of singles and Yuniesky Betancourt also singled for the only hits off Kershaw. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier backed up the performance with home runs. Yovani Gallardo pitched six innings allowing three runs and struck out seven,  taking his fourth loss of the season for the Brewers. After being swept in Atlanta over the weekend rumors began circulating about Mattingly being ousted when the team returned home on Thursday. General Manager Ned Colletti said his manager is “doing fine” and has kept the team steady despite its last-place showing in the NL West. The  Dodgers entered the season with a $215 million payroll creating a pressure to win. The Dodgers record is now 18-25

Brewers look to crack the Clayton Kershaw code

Clayton Kershaw is tied for the majors' lowest ERA, but unfortunately also owns baseball's worst run support average. Fortunately for him, the Milwaukee Brewers have been awful against left-handers as they face Kershaw in Monday night's opener of a three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers out to snap a six-game road slide. Kershaw (4-2, 1.40 ERA) is tied with St. Louis...

Kershaw throws complete game in win over Brewers

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Clayton Kershaw scattered three singles in his second complete game of the year and Matt Kemp hit his first home run since April 24, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night. Ryan Braun managed a pair of singles and Yuniesky Betancourt also singled for the only hits off Kershaw (5-2). The lefty struck out five...

Dodgers have recently become one of the most clutch teams in the MLB, all for Don Mattingly

So you’ve heard a lot about Don Mattingly and his job security recently — hell, I just wrote about it — but this article from Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports spread around yesterday, and it touched on all the common refrains you’ve been hearing, including harping on the team’s hitting with RISP. They wonder why the players don’t spend more time with hitting coach Mark McGwire...

Mattingly throws Ethier under bus?

Embattled Dodgers manager Don Mattingly pulled starting right fielder Andre Ethier from Wednesday's lineup and his explanation for why he did was intriguing.

Don Mattingly and Ned Colletti's severe disconnect hurting Dodgers

Just two days ago, I wrote on Yahoo! Sports that Don Mattingly shouldn't yet be fired. Today, I may have changed my tune. Just in front of Wednesday's matinee series finale with the Brewers, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register brought us these comments from the soon-to-be-former Dodger manager. "Must-read strong comments from #Dodgers mgr Don Mattingly...

Don Mattingly vents about Dodgers

Shocker: The Los Angeles Dodgers are disintegrating into a dysfunctional mess. Manager Don Mattingly benched right fielder Andre Ethier, lashed out at his players' lack of mental toughness and questioned upper management's roster construction in comments to reporters before Wednesday's game in Milwaukee. Either Mattingly spoke with the blessing of general manager Ned...

Is Don Mattingly on his way out?

With the Dodgers struggling, Don Mattingly reportedly has a tenuous hold on his job at best and some speculate that it would be a surprise if he lasts the week.

Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly Rips Team

If you hear a rapping noise odds are it’s the sound of the nails on the coffin encasing Don Mattingly’s job as Dodgers manager closing. Mattingly broke a cardinal rule and shredded his own team in the midst of their struggle, instead of taking the blame. During Wednesday’s pregame Mattingly ranted like a man who’d given up on his 19-26 team: “We gotta find a team with...

Brewers, Gallardo look to build off positives despite loss

MILWAUKEE -- Yovani Gallardo didn't pitch a bad game Monday night, but he did make three mistakes. But Gallardo had to be perfect in order to beat Clayton Kershaw, and he wasn't. The Dodgers left-hander continued his dominance by tossing a complete game, three-hitter in Los Angeles' 3-1 win over Milwaukee. It was a story line almost identical to the one written after...

Dodgers GM says Mattingly "doing fine"

Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti says beleaguered manager Don Mattingly is ''doing fine'' and has kept the team steady despite its last-place showing in the NL West. There has been speculation that Mattingly's job was in jeopardy. The Dodgers are 17-25 despite a high payroll. Asked if it was false to say Mattingly would be fired this week, Colletti...

After Mattingly criticism, Dodgers roll past Brewers

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Dodgers manager Don Mattingly criticized his team and benched All-Star right fielder Andre Ethier, then watched Los Angeles beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-2 Wednesday. Mattingly, in the third and final year of his contract, discussed his club's lack of mental toughness and said he wanted a balanced team that has grit and fight. He benched Ethier for the third...

Mattingly doesn't feel he's about to be fired

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Beleaguered manager Don Mattingly insisted Monday he doesn't feel he's about to be fired by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he has no idea whether he needs to win a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers to keep his job. Mattingly's comments came an hour after GM Ned Colletti said his manager is "doing fine" and has kept the team steady...

Greinke makes return to Miller Park to face Brewers

Though Don Mattingly's days as the Los Angeles Dodgers' manager have been rumored to be numbered, Zack Greinke is just starting to get settled in after recently returning from a month-long absence. Greinke makes just his fourth start Tuesday night and first at Miller Park since being traded from the Milwaukee Brewers last season. The Dodgers have made large investments over...

Dodgers beat Brewers; Ethier benched

Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly has been sharply critical of his slumping team. For at least one day, everything was all right with the embattled Dodgers. Carl Crawford and Scott Van Slyke drove in two runs each and Ramon Hernandez hit his first home run in the Dodgers' 9-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. Even after the win, the Dodgers are last in the NL West...
