The Indians have been wheeling and dealing as the Trade Deadline comes to a close today and now, they have landed a left handed relief pitcher. Marc Rzepczynski (Zep-Chin-Ski) was acquired from St. Louis on Tuesday for minor league prospect Juan Herrera. The 27-year-old lefty is expected to join the team today. After Rzepczynski makes his way to Cleveland, right handed pitcher Joe Martinez will be designated for assignment. GM Chris Antonetti has indicated he will wait until Wednesday at 4 PM before making any moves. Right handed pitcher and fan favorite Vinnie Pestano was optioned last night to Triple A Columbus to also make room for Rzepczynski. According to Twitter, many believed Pestano was going to be traded as he was hugging other players and was super emotional. Alas, Vinnie has just been demoted. He has been a vital part to the “Bullpen Mafia” over the past two seasons although he has struggled with elbow problems this year. He is 1-2 with a 4.05 ERA and six saves in 34 games. Appreciate all the love Tribe fans. See you soon #I’llbeback #couldntresist — Vinnie Pestano (@VinnieP52) July 31, 2013 Until Rzepczynski arrives, Rich Hill will be the only lefty in the bullpen as Nick Hagadone, Scott Barnes and David Huff have all struggled this season. Rzepczynski will be a great asset to help bring back the triumphs of the bullpen of last year.  Although Rzepczynski spent most of his St. Louis days in Triple A Memphis, he opened the year with the Cardinals but was sent down after struggling throughout April. He was recalled to St. Louis and made appearances against Atlanta last Sunday and Pittsburgh on Monday. He gave up 2 runs in one inning against the Pirates. Is this a good trade? Well, Rzepczynski has a 7.84 ERA in 11 appearances this year in the majors. During those 11 games, left handed betters are hitting .294 and right handed batters are batting .407. The lefties that have struggled for the Tribe (Hagadone, Hill, Barnes and Huff) are 1-4 combined with a 6.51 ERA in 80 appearances this year. Chris Antonetti says he is still trying to make another move before the deadline.
