Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
NY Post's Joel Sherman has some tidbits this morning. He says, he Mets sat down to talk directly with Francisco Rodriguez on Sunday night.
If the money can be worked out - the Mets want to keep K-Rod to a three-year deal with an option and - naturally - the closer wants more - Rodriguez is the Mets' first choice.
Yes, his fastball was diminished last season and, perhaps, that was a worrisome sign. But he also does not turn 27 until next month. To date, he has been excellent and durable, and that is what the Mets would gamble on. And there is one other item: Rodriguez would be jumping from the AL to the NL.
Rodriguez's numbers facing NL Foes : Rodriguez has faced an NL team in 45 games covering 50 innings and he has a 1.07 ERA, with just 23 hits allowed (two homers), 20 walks and 67 strikeouts.
One other closer the Mets have on their radar is Kerry Wood. But an official who talks regularly to the Rangers says Texas is quietly trying to bring the native son home.
The Rangers' president is Nolan Ryan, and Wood would probably very much fit his ideal of a Texas fireballer.
