Michael Barron at Metsblog posted that Kevin Burkhardt is reporting that the Mets would like for Moises Alou to join the club as the 1B coach. Alou was an excellent hitter and a professional in the clubhouse, he had a good rapport with some of the players still on the team. Since retiring Alou has been serving as the GM of a winter league team that Obie is the manager. Andy Van Slyke was a member of one of the best outfields I ever watched; the early 90's Pirates with Van Slyke, Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla was incredible. The fact that the manager of that team Jim Leyland would bring him abroad as a coach in Detroit speaks volumes for Van Slyke. I think the hitting coach could be one of the most important additions this season, offensively this team is better then it has been since '06' they have underachieved and need someone who can get the most from them.
