Cody Ransom sure picked the right time to hit his first home run in a Diamondbacks uniform.
With his club down 3-2 and eight outs away from being swept at home by the Dodgers, Ransom would hit a shot into the left field stands off LA starter Clayton Kershaw to give his team a one-run lead. It was the first homer at the big league level for the infielder since he hit one in July of 2010 against the Diamondbacks in Philadelphia.
David Hernandez and J.J. Putz would shut down the eighth and ninth to perserve Arizona’s first W on this 10-game homestand.
Arizona got off to a great start on a Kelly Johnson two-run shot in the first inning. Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy would shut out the Dodgers for the first four innings, but the Dodgers would tag him for one in the fifth on a James Loney solo homer.
