Pro Sports Daily:
It took a while but the Twins took down King Felix and his court on Friday.
First they ruined his shutout bid with Trevor Plouffe’s pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth. Then they outlasted the Mariners in extra innings as Chris Colabello’s two run homer in the 13th gave the Twins a 3-2 victory.
It couldn’t have been a better spot for Colabello’s first major league home run. He endured seven seasons of independent league ball and one season at Class AA New Britain last year before finally getting his big-league shot this season. He was batting .135 in 13 games before entering the game as a pinch hitter in the eight inning on Friday. He grounded into a double play.
After Aaron Hicks led off the 13th with a single Colabello slammed the first pitch he saw from Yoervis Medina into the right field seats.
Closer Glen Perkins gave up a leadoff homer to Kendrys Moralez in the bottom of the 13th but helped bail himself out by coaxing Justin Smoak to hit into a double play and got his 25th s...

Twins catcher Joe Mauer will spend a few extra days with his wife and their new twin daughters.
A team spokesman confirmed Friday that Mauer, who went on the paternity list Wednesday, will stay in the Twin Cities throughout the weekend and will rejoin the team on Tuesday at Target Field.
The paternity leave list, a relatively new thing in Major League Baseball, allows players to...
Another rough start for rookie Kyle Gibson wasn't the Twins' only loss Sunday.
Brian Dozier left Minnesota's 6-4, series-closing defeat at Seattle before the bottom of the sixth inning, citing pain in his lower back. He told reporters afterward he hopes to play when the Twins return home Tuesday, but manager Ron Gardenhire said they'd be careful with their starting...
Rich Harden has asked for and been granted his release from the Minnesota Twins. Harden, 31, is still rehabbing from shoulder surgery and has not pitched at any level since 2011.
Reports on Harden’s rehab this season have not been encouraging.
When Harden last pitched he made 15 starts for Oakland compiling a 5.12 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.
The Minnesota Twins will be without All-Star catcher Joe Mauer until Tuesday.
Mauer, placed on the paternity list Wednesday after his wife gave birth to twin girls, will remain with his family through the weekend while the Twins face the Mariners in Seattle.
The paternity list is for a maximum of three days, so Mauer will be placed on the restricted list Saturday, assistant general...
As the sun painted a blue-and-purple backdrop behind Minnetonka High School's immaculate Veterans Field on Tuesday, Minnetonka Millers manager Kevin Hoy sat contently in the dugout, spitting tobacco into a white Styrofoam cup every so often while his team thrashed the Minneapolis Lakers.
About 32 miles to the south, a couple dozen people crowded into the cozy, chain-link-fence...
Twins left-hander Scott Diamond bounced back from one of his worst outings of the year to pitch one of his best.
Amid his solid effort, Diamond found himself locked into a pitcher's duel against one of the American League's best pitchers, Mariners ace Felix Hernandez. In the end, though, Diamond's outing kept his team in the game and the Twins eventually went on to win...
The Minnesota Twins will be without their All-Star catcher this weekend as he and his wife, Maddie, welcomed twin baby girls on Tuesday.
Under the MLB rules Mauer is allowed three days of paternity leave, which he ran out of yesterday after missing games Tuesday-Friday, but to provide extra time the Twins have placed Mauer on the restricted list. The restricted list allows the team...
Kevin Correia hasn't had many clunkers during his first season with the Minnesota Twins. In fact, he had given up more than four runs just once in his first 19 starts.
Perhaps he was due, then, for the type of outing he had Thursday in Seattle. Correia lasted just 1 23 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits as Minnesota fell 8-2 to the Mariners in the series opener at Safeco...
Samuel Deduno won for the third straight outing pitching a three-hit shutout over seven innings Saturday in Seattle. Deduno produced his third straight quality start and ninth in his past 11 starts dating to May 29. His earned-run average is down to 3.18. Brian Dozier and Justin Morneau hit solo homers in the seventh inning. Morneau reached base three times in four trips. Aaron Hicks...
Brian Dozier and Justin Morneau homered, Samuel Deduno pitched seven scoreless innings and the Minnesota Twins blanked the Seattle Mariners 4-0 Saturday.
It was the fifth shutout of the season for Minnesota, which has won four of its last six games and is 6-3 since the All Star break.
Brad Miller and Kyle Seager each had two hits for Seattle, which has lost three of four.
After adding starting pitcher Scott Feldman and reliever Francisco Rodriguez this month the Orioles have filled two needs before July 31’s non-waiver trade deadline but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still looking.
One of the Orioles top scouts has been in Seattle this week watching the Mariners and the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota’s former MVP Justin Morneau is on the trade...
Chris Colabello hit his first career home run, a two-run shot in the 13th inning, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 on Friday night.
Mariners starter Felix Hernandez was two outs from a shutout and his first complete game of the season, but Trevor Plouffe's pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth tied it at 1.
Runs were hard to come by for both teams until...
