Found April 27, 2012 on The Slanch Report:

Cole Hamels is SUPPOSED to be one of the top free agents available at the end of this baseball season, but not if the San Diego Padres have anything to say about it. Upon Colbert Hamels' (Colbert!) birth, his mother, an employee of the Padres at the time, signed a LIFETIME contract for a robust $1 with the Padres then-head of marketing Andy Strasberg. Makes that $2M bonus Hamels got in the 2002 draft look a bit excessive.

Inflation is awesome.

If I were the Padres I'd have my lawyers filing a lawsuit immediately to have Hamels transferred to San Diego and for him to start living out that lifetime deal...

Daily Friar 4.27.12

It's no secret that the Padres have been awful this season. They have yet to win a series, the best they've done is tie with the Phillies. I do have to give them credit though, they have done a decent job at winning at least one game to avoid a sweep. Of the 6 series that we've played so far, only 1 has been a sweep. The other have been 2-1 losses (minus the tie). The...
