Ned Colletti and the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly nearing a deal with free agent Juan Rivera. Per Ken Gurnick, it's a reported one-year deal worth $4MM with an option for the 2013 season. The deal should be finalized in the next couple days. If you are surprised, you shouldn't be,  I warned you already. You shouldn't be disappointed either, because ya just knew it was going to happen. I will be absolutely shocked if Rivera produces $4MM worth of baseball over the 2012 season. The thing about this deal is, if he does in 2012 what he did for the Dodgers in 2011 this will be a nice bargain deal, but it ain't gonna happen. For one Colletti isn't that lucky, and Rivera just isn't that good.

Rivera, 33, should be decent in 2012 after posting a combined line of .258/.319/.382 with 11 homers and 23 doubles for the Blue Jays and Dodgers in 2011. Rivera also had an very respectable .805 OPS against left-handed pitching. He was a large part of the success for the Dodgers in the second half, and while I am not jumping for joy over the news, I'm not kicking and screaming either.
