Try this one on for size Mets fans… According to Terry Collins, Lucas Duda will play first base against left-handed pitching for the remainder of the season. That of course translates into first baseman Ike Davis riding the pine against left-handed pitching from here on in, thus becoming a platoon player. Knowing the type of temperamental player Ike Davis could be, you have to think he must be seething about this… This is essentially a message form the organization to Davis that they see him mostly as a platoon guy at first base who can’t hit lefties… Or am I making too much of this? I’m not going to give you a rant on how unfair this is to Davis, because he has sucked big time against lefties this season, and if you don’t believe me just go look up his splits. But I do question what the plan is going forward…. If Lucas Duda is being groomed to take over in left field next season, than why are we wasting time playing him at first base? It keeps coming down to what I’ve been saying f...

Mets Will Consider Trading Ike Davis Who Is Unwilling To Take Coaching Advice

According to what a baseball source told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets will consider trading Ike Davis this offseason. While that does not guarantee Davis will be moved, it at least is a very plausible option. Davis should be marketable despite a slow start because he is a 30-homer threat with the potential for above-average fielding at first base. The Mets are disappointed...

Ike Davis Responds To Charges About Staying Out Late And Resisting Coaching

Ike Davis responded to a report on ESPN NewYork this morning that said he could potentially be traded this offseason and allegations from a baseball source that he is un-coachable and likes to stay out late. “I don’t really have an answer for that because it’s never been an issue,” Davis said. “I’ve never done anything wrong. I show up to the field ready to play...

Ike Davis upset over trade report saying he’s out too late, not coachable

In what has been yet another disappointing season for the Mets, Ike Davis has been one of a few standout players. Although his batting average of .223 is low, the first baseman has provided some pop this season with 27 homers and 81 RBI in a lineup that has struggled to produce. But because of the way he spends his personal time, the Mets could be open to trading Davis. Or that...

Duda Over Davis Doesn’t Make Sense

With Adam Rubin’s report citing a baseball source that the Mets are open to trading Ike Davis this winter, the offseason rumor mill has officially started spinning.  Now, please keep in mind that I’m not necessarily opposed to the team trading Davis away, and while its comforting that the team’s front office is prepared to make changes, this particular change doesn’t necessarily...

Mets' Davis responds to report

Ike Davis has no idea what all the fuss is about. The New York Mets' first baseman responded Tuesday to an ESPNNewYork.com report that said, citing an anonymous baseball source, the team will consider trading him this offseason in part because of concerns that he's resistant to coaching and stays out too late. ''I don't really have an answer for that because...

Mets' Davis, Collins deny ESPN report

The New York Mets may look into trading Ike Davis this winter, as they will so many of their players. But it won't be because of anything to do with Davis' life off the field. Both Davis and manager Terry Collins denied an ESPN report on Tuesday stating that some Mets officials are upset with Davis' nightlife. The report also accused Davis of being resistant to coaching...

More Thoughts On Benching Davis In Favor Of Duda Against LHP

Yesterday, Terry Collins announced that Lucas Duda will play first base against left-handed pitching for the remainder of the season. That of course translates into first baseman Ike Davis riding the pine against left-handed pitching from here on in, thus becoming a platoon player at least for the rest of this season. Knowing the type of intense player Ike Davis is, you have...

Trading Ike Davis, Lucas Duda at First, and Quotes

It wasn’t just a weather system that pushed through Newark and the 5 Boroughs yesterday as Adam Rubin quoted a source saying that the Mets will consider trading Ike Davis this winter because, among other things, they aren’t happy with how late he stays out after games and that he doesn’t take coaching advice. Ike was then quoted as dumbfounded, because as he says he never...

Expanded rosters lead to more crappy LOOGY decisions from Terry Collins

Terry Collins has 17 pitchers to choose from and it only seemed like he used every one of them Saturday night, when he trotted eight different pitchers out to the mound in a game where the Brewers batted eight times. Some of this was unavoidable, as Jenrry Mejia did not record an out in the fourth inning. But some of it was more of Collins’ platoon advantage masturbation, which...

Mets could trade Ike Davis during the offseason

According to a baseball source close to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, the Mets will consider trading first baseman Ike Davis during the offseason “as a way to upgrade other areas of the team and open a spot for Lucas Duda at his natural position.” Andy Martino of the New York Daily News writes that they're open to trade either Duda or Davis for the right price although...

Pre-Game: New York Mets (66-79) at Milwaukee Brewers (73-72)

This afternoon at Miller Park, the Mets will try to actually win a series.  Last night, the Mets scored some runs again, but it wasn’t enough as Jenry Mejia couldn’t find the plate and blew a 4-1 lead. Ike Davis hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th inning, but it wasn’t enough at the Mets fell to the Brewers 9-6.  Chris Young (4-7 4.39 ERA) will be starting for the Mets...

The Thread Unravels

When last we left first base, we were left with a platoon situation of the strangest order. Lucas Duda now playing against lefties with Ike Davis not hitting. What was first thought to be a showcase move for Duda might still be. But we have a much sharper crease in the material. The Mets will consider trading Ike Davis this offseason as a way to upgrade other areas of the team...
