Mark this one down in the “reasons not to dip” category.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left Wednesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins because of dizziness after he swallowed his chewing tobacco, says Brandon Maloy of Sports Illustrated.
While many players dip with regularity, its pretty rare — and strongly suggested against — to turn it into a meal.
Gonzalez may have inadvertently swallowed it making a play, but the unplanned snack left him unable to continue the game.
Luckily for Gonzalez and the Rockies, manager Walt Weiss told reporters that the outfielder would be just fine and good to go for the team’s next game.
Next time, maybe Gonzalez will opt for some bubble gum instead.
