Drew Pomeranz is a bright spot in the Rockies 2nd half.Every bit of criticism that the Colorado Rockies have received has been well deserved. It is extremely difficult to find any positives in this horrible season. In fact, the truth is, the Rockies probably deserve even more criticism than what blogs, newspaper articles, and local radio shows have thrown their way. This is a terrible team. It isn't just the players on the field. It is a top-to-bottom failure. From ownership to the scouting department to the players on the field, this franchise has been terrible. The good news is, however, the worst is behind the 2012 Rockies. Most people think that is a crazy statement. Most who follow the club know that the trend suggests that the team that is on pace to lose 100 games for the first time in franchise history is only going to get worse as the season goes on.However, that might not be the case. In all of the losing, the talent on this team is starting to surface. Instead of pitcher...

It doesn't get much better for Josh Rutledge. For Josh Rutledge, it doesn't get any better. Two days ago the 23-year-old was in the starting lineup for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers. After the 4th inning he was removed from the game and told that he had been called up, not called up to Triple-A, called up to the big league level. He would make his Major League debut on Friday...
Prior to the All-Star break rumors swirled that the Mets were interested in veteran catcher Ramon Hernandez. While I'm not enamored with the 36y/o who is hitting only .215 the move, if it comes to fruition would make a lot of sense. In a lefty dominant line-up Hernandez would be a righty bat to platoon with Thole who has shown, in 44 plate appearances Thole is hitting just...
Christian Friedrich pitched six strong innings, Josh Rutledge had two hits and two RBIs in his major league debut and the Colorado Rockies beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 Friday night.
Friedrich (5-6) got the best of Cliff Lee (1-6) in his first career appearance against the Phillies, who have lost five straight and 11 of their past 12 games.
In winning for the first time in...
DENVER -- Josh Rutledge's storybook major league debut Friday helped Christian Friedrich break a five-game losing streak, and the Colorado Rockies added to the dire nature of the Philadelphia Phillies' season with a 6-2 victory. Rutledge, a 23-year-old shortstop who was brought up Friday from Double-A Tulsa, hit a run-scoring double and a single in his first two at-bats...
Troy Tulowitzki remains out with an injury as the Phillies head to Colorado to face the Rockies. (Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso)
If there is going to be a huge comeback from the Phillies, it has to begin now. In the short term, the Phillies drew a good opponent.
The Colorado Rockies are in fourth place in the NL West with a 33-52 record, one of only a handful of teams below the...
If you need one reason and one reason only for Major League Baseball to increase their use of instant replay, look no further than the photo above. The umpire pictured in the photo, Tim Welke, called the runner out. Welke was blocked by Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton when making the call, but as long as you know that Helton’s leg isn’t 6′ long, you know that Helton is off...

Welcome to the second half of the 2012 MLB season. Typically, the Phillies are a much better team during the second half than in the first half. They didn't look like it tonight in Colorado. After a four-day break for the All-Star Game and its festivities, Cliff Lee was looking for that second win after coming off of his first on July 4th against...
Final: Phillies 2, Rockies 6.
WP: Christian Friedrich (5-6, 5.60 ERA)
LP: Cliff Lee (1-6, 3.92 ERA)
Coming off of a much needed break, the Phillies sought to get the unofficial second half of the season off to a right track Friday night in Colorado.
Unfortunately, the offense was only able to score two runs, and the combined struggle from the pitching and bullpen prevented...

The second half of the season is underway! In recent history, the Phillies have been known to be a second half team. They have to start playing good baseball immediately if they want any shot...
