The Mets have not yet addressed the needs of their bench as well as depth on the rest of their roster. Nobody expects the team to sign players beyond their means, but it is starting to become a question of whether Sandy Alderson cares about what he trots out on the field come opening day. Most Mets fans would agree that the basics of the team could be competitive; the lineup, projected five starting pitchers and the bullpen are major league caliber. What has destroyed this team over the past three or four years is not just the injuries, but the lack of depth to fill in for such injuries. And they seem on the same path this season. It couldn’t be any more obvious that Johan Santana is not a guarantee for opening day, but I guess the Mets feel differently. Alderson stated something along the lines of “we are waiting for the prices on some players to come down” and that he is looking forward to that period of time. The prices have come down lower than what anybody cou...

Welcome Home, Choo Choo: Fabled Mets’ Catcher Coleman Finally Returns to New York

What comes to mind when I mention “1962?” Is it Casey Stengel’s fractured fairy tales? Is it Marvelous Marv and his unintentional hilarity in the environs of the first base bag? Is it sad-sack starter Roger Craig, a very good pitcher both before and after his Met tenure? Is it the sheer futile enormity of 40-120? When I think of the ’62 Mets, I think of all this, but...

The Mets will be soon playing in Citi Field in a little more then 2 months. This will be the 4th season in the new ballpark which will have new dimensions to help the park become more neutral and also help David Wright and Jason Bay stop shaking there heads as they round 1st as they see a ball in left center or right center go to die. Couple of years ago there was talk about the Mets hosting

Mets To Sell 10 Shares Of Team

According to Steven Marcus of Newsday, the Mets expect to complete the sale of ten minority shares of the team at $20 million each by the end of February. It previously was believed that the Mets would close on a minimum of four units by the end of January. No reason was given for the new timetable or whether the closings would take place at the same time. None of the potential...

Still No Light At End Of The Tunnel

Pitchers and catchers report to St. Lucie in three weeks and where is the sense of optimism that comes with the approaching baseball season? In the past three years the Mets entered spring training without realistic hope save wishing they could muster a competitive season to keep their dwindling fan base interested and enthused. This year included. It is not healthy when the fans’...

Mets Notes: Bucholz To Skip 2012, Ankiel Still On Mets Radar, Oberkfell To Bears

Reliever Taylor Buchholz, who has dealt with anxiety and depression issues throughout his career, plans to skip the 2012 season, agent David Pasti told ESPN New York. Buchholz signed with Mets last offseason and went on the DL on June 2 with what was announced as shoulder fatigue. But a month later both Buchholz and the Mets jointly announced that he was dealing with the emotional...

The Perfect Way For The Mets To Stick It To The Marlins

If you’re a true Mets fan, then you know how much the Marlins have been a thorn in the team’s side since 2007.  First, Tom Glavine was able to retire only one more batter than I did in the 2007 regular season finale, completing the Mets’ collapse.  One year later, the Marlins wouldn’t get off the field after they once again eliminated the Mets (and Shea...

Murphy ready to work tirelessly at second base

Though the second-base job does not technically belong to Daniel Murphy, it appears to be his to lose heading into Spring Training. But Murphy will hold it throughout the summer only if he proves adequate at the position.

Mets Fans: A Nation in Crisis...Again

The New York Mets fans are a proud people. They have to be. Their team has only won two World Series titles in 50 years and they only have one player inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame. They don't have as much to hold on to as fans of other franchises. As a Mets fan I can completely understand this logic; Be proud of what you have. They have had a long history of bad moments...
