Yesterday evening the Oakland A’s finally cut ties with Conor Jackson. The A’s traded him to the Boston Red Sox for pitching prospect Jason Rice and cash. Let’s be honest does it matter what the A’s got for him? Jackson is gone and that is all that matters. I know the A’s had high hopes when they got him from the Diamondbacks but unfortunately it did not work out.
I would like to say this is a good move for both involved but I think the A’s got the better end of this deal. Even if Rice never works out the A’s now can just give first base to Brandon Allen and give another spot on the bench to a deserving youngster. That by itself made the whole trade worth it. Hopefully Jason Rice will turnout to be a decent bullpen pitcher. That would just be icing on the cake.
Don’t get me wrong, I hope Jackson does well for the Sox. I have no hard feelings. I don’t think he will get back that level of solid play he used to be at but I do wish ...
