According to numerous Internet sources the Chicago Cubs have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Coco Crisp. The interest in Crisp is a bit puzzling after the signing of David DeJesus. The two players are similar in style. Crisp had a down year for the Athletics last season, where he was a teammate of DeJesus. Despite a sporting an on base percentage of just .314 Crisp did lead the American League in stolen bases with 49. He’s long been considered an above average center fielder though he was a tick below average in 2011 according to advanced defensive metrics. The Cubs could look at Crisp as a potential platoon partner for Marlon Byrd in center field or a starter in left field should they work out a trade to move Alfonso Soriano and his massive contract. Crisp made over $11 million for Oakland over the past two years.
