I've always admired John Smoltz. He spent 20 years with the Atlanta Braves no matter how much money was thrown at him (and there was a LOT of money, trust me.) Smoltz does whatever is asked of him. He had a little bit of a shoulder problem and the Braves suggested a move to the bullpen. He said sure and what did he do? He racked up 3 straight seasons with 44 or more saves. I'll be honest, I sort of idolize the man (except for all that religious mumbo jumbo he preaches.)
He ended last season with shoulder surgery and is trying to make another comeback. He's not coming back for selfish reasons (he's got a sure-fire Hall of Fame resume already and a bankroll that could purchase the entire state of Idaho.) He loves playing ball and that's what he wants to do.
The Red Sox are rumored to be heavily watching his rehab. They've asked for all of his medical records and videotapes of his post-surgery throwing routines. Is it possible that Boston could get him to help out in the bullpen? Talk about a dream come true.
