The End Of Jared Schumaker In St. Louis

Skip Schumaker is no longer a Cardinal. He's been traded to the Dodgers for a AA infielder.  This isn't a surprise to anyone. Schumaker, the consummate professional, saw the writing on the wall with the Cardinals and discreetly requested a trade from GM John Mozeliak.    I'm pretty sure outside of his family and some truly die hard fans, this is really...

TCN Blog 2012 top story #20: Returning to Peoria and State College

The St. Louis Cardinals have enjoyed relative stability in their minor league system in recent years. That is due in a large part to the fact the organization owns five of its eight minor league affiliates. Two of the three others will be shifting for 2013 and beyond, but the changes are not dramatic. In fact, they are quite familiar and comfortable. On September 11, Triple-A Memphis...

Cardinals number 12s on 12/12/12

With the special day that is upon us, December 12, 2012, I decided to take a quick look at some of the notables to have worn the jersey for the St. Louis Cardinals. The most recent number 12 is, of course, Lance Berkman. The long-time Houston Astros star arrived in St. Louis on the rebound after a mid-season 2010 trade to the Yankees that led nowhere. Assigned to take his balky...

Did The Cardinals Miss Their Shortstop?

The St. Louis Cardinals went into the offseason with a very short shopping list.  Solidify the bullpen, which they accomplished with the signing of Randy Choate, and upgrade the middle infield. The rumors have flown and the team has been attached to just about any shortstop that was even rumored to be available.  While rumors and pundits wondered what direction they would go,...

After an exciting run in the second half led to a franchise regular season-record 16 games above .500 mark at 77-61, the Double-A Springfield Cardinals prevailed in two post-season rounds, culminating with the franchise’s first-ever Texas League Championship. April marked a rough start for the Cards and their new manager Mike Shildt, in his first games above rookie ball. Shildt...

Could Lemmerman ever become another Eckstein?

Some reports about the St. Louis Cardinals new minor league shortstop evoke the memory of one of the club’s former major league starters at the position. Is it a fair comparison?
