PHOENIX -- Carl Crawford is scheduled to hit Thursday in a minor league game against Meiji University of Japan, two days after he took live batting practice. This appears to mark progress for Crawford, who is recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery. The last time Crawford faced live pitching, he had to be shut down for a week. The outfielder has been working out for the last week. Depending on how he feels hitting, Crawford could also resume throwing Thursday. Zack Greinke, who skipped his last start because of elbow inflammation, is still scheduled to play catch on Friday. Manager Don Mattingly said the earliest Greinke would be able to throw a bullpen session would be next week. Mattingly said the Dodgers have started to think about what they might do if Greinke isnt ready to pitch at the start of the regular season. I guess I didnt really know what the problem was, Greinke said Tuesday. I guess is I still dont. They might. But Im not a doctor. Im just going with what theyre saying to me. Greinke said he knew little about his elbow, including whether hell be able to make his first scheduled start of the regular season on April 2. I dont know that either, Greinke said. Anything that you are all writing, I think, is premature. Nothings 100 percent sure either way. Manager Don Mattingly said Monday that he thought Greinke should be ready to pitch at the start of the season. Team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache diagnosed Greinke with inflammation in the back of his elbow, according to a statement issued by the Dodgers. Greinke was given an injection of platelet-rich plasma and expected to resume a progressive throwing program after a few days of rest. Greinke underwent an MRI exam last week that revealed no structural damage. ElAttrache didnt order a new MRI exam Monday. Asked how his elbow felt, Greinke replied, I dont know. I dont know how its supposed to feel. I havent talked to the trainers yet. Well see. I dont think I should be telling you too much information about whats going on. Leave it up to them to tell you that stuff. -Dylan Hernandez
