Rich Harden looked his old self tonight, K’ing 9 against 1 BB, while allowing just 1 ER and (you may want to sit down for this) NO HOME RUNS ALLOWED. I know, shocking. Even more shocking, Carlos “El Caminante” Marmol came in and tossed an 8-pitch, 1-2-3 inning in relief. Gregg pitched an uneventful (save for HP ump John Hirschbeck’s inexplicable loss of his own strike zone) ninth for his 13th save. Bradley and Fox both had two hits. Theriot hit a HR, which will doubtlessly lead Rick Telander to write another piece of hand-wringing hypocrisy. But this offense still struggled with RiSP, going just 1-7 in that situation. But if Bradley can get himself on track, and Fox’ hot hitting continues, along with that of Soto and Lee, maybe they can get this turned around. Speaking of Bradley, Len and Bob informed us during the game that the Immortal Sam Fuld will be starting in CF tomorrow, with the hapless Fukudome in RF. Bradley will spend the next “day or two” with Von Joshua in the cage working on his LH swing. MB will have some photos of Bradley last season and this season up later this week to compare. I think there’s something wrong with his approach to the pitch as his hands come into he hitting position, but we’ll see what the photos say. Paul Sullivan is already using both forefingers to hammer out a column about Bradley being “benched.” The last one he did was false; this one will be, too. And I know we all can’t wait for Wittenmeyer’s newest ode to the greatness of Sam Fuld. Ted Lilly, everyone’s favorite serial killer (sorry Dexter!), takes on Ross Ohlendorf tomorrow. Let’s hope the baby steps on offense continue and the Cubs get a win. Although a lineup that is likely to feature both Fuld and Fukudome does not inspire me.
