The Chicago Cubs reached an agreement to sign free-agent lefthander Paul Maholm
The deal is expected to be announced Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Pirates declined a $9.75 million option on Maholm after the season.
The 29-year-old Maholm has spent the past seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 53-73 record with a 4.36 ERA.
His 2011 season ended in August due to a shoulder injury. Maholm was 0-5 in his last seven starts to finish 6-14 with a 3.66 ERA in 26 starts last season.
