Found June 24, 2008 on Another Cubs Blog:
Sean Marshall looked really good for 3 innings and then gave up a couple of hits and seemingly every baserunner scored. He ended up pitching 4.2 innings allowing 4 runs, but it was a better outing than that. Mike Wuertz wasn't very good and it was 7-1 O's entering the Cubs half of the 7th. Jim Edmonds came up with 2 men on and cut the lead in half with another home run. In the 8th inning, Edmonds due up with 2 runners on and trailing 7-5, Lou pinch hits for him with Matt Murton who did, much to my surprise, get the ball out of the infield. Edmonds hit a home run against a lefty the other day and I understand the platoon advantage, but Edmonds is red hot right now and Murton is Murton, a guy who struggles to get the ball out of the infield. The Cubs had a better chance of scoring runs that inning with Edmonds against the lefty than they did with Murton if the O's had a 7-year old girl on the mound. In the 9th, the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out and then Cedeno, Fukudome and pinch hitter Henry Blanco (pinch hitting for Eric Patterson) all struck out. Cubs lose 7-5. It's impossible to be upset as coming back from 7-1 is just not likely, but the Cubs made a game out of it, which they've done all year long. This team doesn't quit. The Cardinals bet the Tigers so the Cubs lead is now at 3.5 games.
