The Chicago Cubs are going all-out in their quest not to lose 100 games this season. Well, almost all-out. Team president Theo Epstein met with reporters on the field before Friday's 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field. It was the Cubs' first game after a long, 10-game road trip. "It would be really nice to avoid. We're going to try to win every game. If we can win enough to avoid 100, that would be a small victory, but it's certainly better than losing 100. The guys feel that. No one wants to be a part of that." While trying to win every game, Epstein said the Cubs will not do anything to hinder a young player's development or compromise a players' health just to win. In other words, right-hander Jeff Samardzija won&#...

Hope for the Hopeless: Chicago Cubs

In our Hope for the Hopeless series, we take a look at all of the teams in the league that finished under .500, and examine what their fans can be optimistic about after a disappointing 2012 season. When the Cubs reset their front office regime this past offseason, hope was seemingly restored on the north side of the windy city. However, that hope came along with the realization...

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro stumbles rounding second base (Video)

Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro stumbled and fell rounding second base on a double during the eighth inning of Saturday's MLB game at Wrigley Field against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Fortunately, Castro's reflexes allowed himself to break his fall to avoid a faceplant and get back to second base in time to avoid disaster. Castro came around to score a run on...

The Chicago Cubs season is rambling down

Well, hello again everybody.  It has been awhile since I shared my ridiculous and random stream of consciousness with everyone.  My sincerest apologies.  Life got in the way as a trip to Ireland, and that pesky thing called a “work conference” prevented me from rambling about all things Cubs including a great weekend in Pittsburgh and due propers to Alfonso Soriano who apparently...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs – Game 144

I like to read message boards.  I often frequent the Steelerfury message boards.  They allow me to post my blog posts on their Pittsburgh Sports forum and a decent group of people talk Bucco-baseball.  It’s nice really.  Anyway I was reading there and one of the members posted this. If they don’t make the playoffs, [...]
