Towel Drills:
News on Ownership, FA's, and Trades- Breaking News-Mark Cuban has been charged with insider trading by the SEC. I am guessing this puts him out of the running to purchase the Cubs, as even if he is exonerated, it likely gives the MLB owners an excuse to refuse him ownership.
- The Braves are out of the Jake Peavy derby, meaning that essentially the Cubs are the only suitors, although the Pads are supposedly trying to get more teams involved. Even with the Braves being out, the Cubs still don't have the prospects to give up unless the Pads are looking to dump him for free.
- The Cubs have made some calls to Randy Johnson, after the contract talks with the D-Backs broke down. Most experts still say that the two sides will be able to meet, but this would be an interesting addition. He's bound to miss a few starts, but still averaged over 6 innings per start this past year and had a sub 4 ERA. Not that the Cubs need a reason to put seats in the stands, but RJ is 5 short of 300 wins. The 45 year old's also 4-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 5 starts at Wrigley in his career.
- Rafael Furcal is looking for a 4 year, $40 mil deal. Guessing that rules out the Cubs.
