There are new faces all over Wrigley Field, but the results are starting to have an old, familiar look.

And that's not good.

The Chicago Cubs fell 3-0 to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. And while many observers felt pitching would be a problem after the trades of Ryan Dempster and Paul Maholm and the elbow injury to Matt Garza, it's the hitting that's been the biggest problem. Or the lack of hitting.

After Sunday's game, the Cubs are 1-11 over their last 12 and have been outscored 60-31 in that span. Granted, they've faced some tough pitchers in this current stretch, including Johnny Cueto on Sunday, but they've not generated much against anybody of late.

"We're right back in the same rut we were kind of in at the beginning, the first couple months, where we just can't get anything going," manager Dale Sveum said. "It's tough to get things going, especially today off Cueto, one of the best starters in the game. But we're not getting a whole lot going. Unfortunately, the days we did score six and eight runs, we came up short in those games on the pitching side of it."

The Cubs do have some rookies in the lineup, including center fielder Brett Jackson. Rookie third baseman Josh Vitters figures to get more playing time eventually, but Sveum admits there's not much more shaking up he can do with the batting order.

"I don't think there's a whole lot of switching and mixing and matching with the lineup," he said. "It's kind of what it is."
