The Chicago Cubs placed outfielder Marlon Byrd on the 15-day disabled list one day after he was hit in the face by a pitch from Red Sox right-hander Alfredo Aceves. Byrd was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures after the pitch caught him just below his left eye in the second inning of Saturday night's meeting between the two teams.
