The Chicago Cubs are obviously not contenders this season and according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, they are letting everybody know that every player, except for Jeff Samardzija is available. “We're starting to get some early calls now,” Theo Epstein (Cubs' president of baseball operations) said. “There might be fewer sellers than usual and a lot more buyers. This has a chance to help us. We need core players.” Among the players that could interest other teams are outfielder Alfonso Soriano (who will make $19 million in 2012, 2013 and 2014), starters Ryan Dempster ($14 million this season) and Matt Garza ($9.5 million this season and one more year of arbitration), David DeJesus ($4.25 million in 2012 and 2013 and an option for 2014), Brian LaHair (a rookie making $482,500 and Starlin Castro ($567,000 in 2012 and will be arbitration eligible for the first time in 2013). Even though the Cubs made everyone available that doesn't mean they will trade everyone, but at the right price, everybody on their roster could be traded.
