Carlos Zambrano, RHP (3.83,3.95) v Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP (3.27,3.82), 8:10 PM CT Z had some back issues in his last start in Florida - hopefully they will have cleared up for this start. Jimenez has the fastest fastball among all qualifying starters, averaging 95.9 mph on the pitch. It’s a decent one too, unlike Zumaya’s 100mph heater; Fangraphs has its value pegged at 0.45 runs above average per 100 fastballs. He’s a great pitcher for Coors field, he strikes batters out with that fastball while keeping the ball in the park (0.5 HR/9 last year and this year). He’s had issues with control in the past, but has managed to knock his BB/9 by nearly a run and a half this season to 3.38. The matchup between the fastball-hitting Soriano and Jimenez, who throws FBs 66% of the time, should be fun to watch. Lineups Fukudome, CF (.359 wOBA) Bradley, RF (.347) Lee, 1B (.382) Ramirez, 3B (.413) Soto, C (.322) Soriano, LF (.328) Fontenot, 2B (.300) Theriot, SS (.335) Marshall, P (4.42 FIP) Fowler, CF (.341) Gonzalez, LF (.339) Helton, 1B (.383) Tulowitzki, SS (.369) Hawpe, RF (.395) Stewart, 3B (.344) Ianetta, C (.335) Quintanilla, 2B (.220) Jimenez, P (3.27 FIP) (UPDATE) Z was apparently scratched, grabbing his back while warming up. Dammit. h/t to HG. Cubs lose.
